Block Printing

In this masterclass you will learn the basic skills of block printing in two days: from a simple print to a multi-colored pattern, applied to your own final project. You ’ll experience the challenge of making a composition and learn to think about the use of color, design, layering and repetitions. You get to know your own taste and handwriting in printing. You ‘ll work with block prints from the Nathalie Cassée collection.
You ‘ll go home with your tests and a printed fabric that you can use in your future projects (it’s best to have already an idea of where you will use it for before printing). We work with textile paint and not with natural dyes. After the masterclass you will be able to understand how you can apply block printing in your area of expertise.
Nathalie Cassée learned block printing from artisans and studios in India, England and France. As a daughter of visual and graphic artist Dick Cassée, she inherited the love and understanding of graphic techniques from an early age. Her interest in Indian textiles and handicrafts means that she has been traveling to India a number of times a year since 2007, building up an extensive knowledge of Indian textiles. In recent years she has given many workshops and masterclasses block printing.
She regularly writes articles about Indian handicraft. In India she realizes her own collection for her company Kashmir Heritage. She regularly develops unique projects in collaboration with designers and craftsmen and offers her collection at specialized European fairs. Recently she produced the first hand-made sits for the Netherlands in 200 years. This reproduction, together with the eighteenth-century original, was exhibited in 2017 in the Fries Museum during the exhibition Sits, cotton in bloom.
